TONY SEARS

Actor/director Tony Sears studied Drama at The Universtiy of Georgia and l’Institut des Etudes Europeenes in Paris.  He spent several years as the Associate Artistic Director of the Hilton Head Island Playhouse (now the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina) before coming to Los Angeles to work in Film and Television Production.

Upon arrival in LA he began studying with Darryl Hickman (author of The Unconscious Actor) and later taught alongside him in his acclaimed workshop.

He worked in the Art Department of several films and TV shows, including three seasons assisting Emmy Award Winner Richard James in the Art Department of Star Trek: Voyager, later returning as an actor to appear in two episodes.

His acting resume also includes such hit TV shows as Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Judging Amy.  Sears can be seen at the moment, playing the Doctor in Project Abraham, the back-story video for the popular Sony Playstation 3 video game, Resistance Fall of Man, as well as Inspector Radcliffe in the new Internet series, Pesky Pike.  On stage he has played such varied roles as Horace in Little Foxes, Commander Challee in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing, Mr. Martin in The Bald Soprano, and Jean in Rhinoceros (in Paris) as well as countless leads in musicals.

He has directed productions of Savage in Limbo, The Nerd, West Side Story, My One and Only, Sugar, Oklahoma, A Rosen By Any Other NameHaving Our Say, Surviving David, Hide and Freak, and Belle of Amherst. Sears has just directed two short films, The Path and Life,  and is in preproduction on two more shorts.  In the Spring of 2009 he will direct ONE, the story of a young nurse during the Korean War.  Visit www.tony sears.com for more on upcoming projects.

On January 14th Sears will begin teaching his own acting workshop at the Actors Forum Theater in North Hollywood. The class will primarily focus on scene study - teaching the actor how to rehearse, build a scene, and discover for themselves a process which they can repeat for any role, creating a performance with or without the help of a director.

The foundation of the work is based in moment-to-moment exchanges of real energy between actors.  From that foundation will be layered the elements of craft for building a performance.  In the early weeks of class, students will be expected to select a scene and a monologue and begin
rehearsing the material.

Throughout the next months, students will build their work, layering different elements of craft towards performance.  In the late summer, they will be expected to be at performance level. At that time students will perform scenes in a formal evening workshop for invited casting directors and agents.  Cost of the workshop is 50 dollars per class(week) and the workshop will operate in 10 week cycles.
